3 Likely Culprits Behind A Sticking Garage Door

Garage doors serve a crucial purpose. They keep your car (or cars) and other valuable stuff out of plain sight, protecting them from would-be thieves and vandals. That's why you should make sure your garage door is working properly at all times. Any signs of a malfunctioning door should be addressed immediately to avoid the risk of a potential break-in into your home.

A garage door that gets stuck during opening or closing is an obvious sign that urgent repair service is needed. Here's a look at the most likely reasons why you may face this issue with your garage door, and why you might need garage door repair.

1. Obstructed Track

Running on either side of your garage door and above it, the track guides the door during its operation. If there's any obstruction along the door's track — that is, the path that the door follows on its way up or down — the entire door will become stuck.

A good place to start troubleshooting a sticking garage door is to check if there's anything along the door's track that may be halting door operation.

Over time, accumulated dirt can easily block your garage door's trajectory, causing it to get jammed while opening or closing. If dirt buildup is the cause of the problem, your door can be repaired by simply wiping down the tracks and rollers to remove any dirt and grime.

If there's any other obstruction along the track, simply removing it should get your garage door working smoothly again.

2. Garage Door Rollers Have Come Off Track

Although they come in different versions, rollers are generally the small wheels that move along the track on your garage door, allowing the door to roll up and down.

If these wheels jump out of the track during door operation, then your door won't travel all the way up or down. This problem can be fixed by putting the rollers back in position and then closing the opening in the track.

3. Poor Lubrication

Garage doors comprise several moving parts that work together to ensure smooth door operation. If these components are not kept properly lubricated, they can cause your door to get stuck during opening or closing.

As you can see, there are a variety of reasons why your garage door may get stuck during operation. The best way to avoid guesswork and ensure the problem is addressed properly is to enlist the services of a garage door repair technician near you.
